Skiers who are at least 8 or 9 years old (2015, 2014 Year of birth) are encouraged to join the U10 Race Tigers Program (consistent with Alpine Canada's "Skier Essentials https://ltad.alpinecanada.org/stages/skier-essentials / Learn to Train https://ltad.alpinecanada.org/stages/learn-to-train" stage) for either a 1 day per week option, 2 day per week option, or 3 day per week option (Fri-Sun).

This program starts on the second weekend in December and runs through to the first weekend in April.

This program runs from 9:00pm - 3:00pm and strategically hires experienced coaches with a broad diversity of skill sets. The Race Tigers will be exposed to a wide variety of training environments from which athletes can acquire the broad skiing skills required to be a successful skier and racer. This program offers a highly diverse coaching staff. From recently retired high-level racers who are able to demonstrate modern racing technique, to highly experienced coaches with 30 plus years of industry experience, we aim to provide a very rich learning environment for your child.

Calendar:  You will be connected with the TeamSnap calendar when you register.

Races / Events at other ski areas: there will be additional costs associated with attending events at other mountains such as race entry fees, "racer discounted" lift passes, and coach expenses. Coaching fees are included in your program fees and VSC will send a coach based on minimum numbers.

Race Tiger members can expect to improve quickly in this ideal "window of optimal trainability" for skill development, with coaches who truly know their game.

Race Tigers spend the majority of their ski time outside of ski race environments. Free-skiing with a certified coach is critical to establishing the skills needed in alpine ski racing now, and in the coming years. Training in fun and creative drill and race courses are also important tools that we regularly challenge our skiers with. We encourage skiers who plan to do the U12 program consider the 2 day per week or 3 day per week option as it may make it easier to transition to the higher level of skiing we see within the U12 group. As Alpine Canada remarks, "time and mileage on-snow in the early years is more difficult to replace in the later stages of development".

The Race Tigers will have the option of participating in a number of fun events right here at Silverstar Mountain (included in the program costs).

Those registered in the 1 day / week program can add-on additional training days at a cost of $50/day at any time if there is availability (please give one week notice so we can appropriately staff), or can bump up to the 2 day / week program at approximately a pro-rata cost at anytime throughout the season.

As a member of the Vernon Ski Club, you and your family are encouraged to make use of the VSC Cabin. The parent lounge is upstairs where you can meet the other amazing parents in the club, and there are eating areas on the main level and on the lower level for the athletes. There is also a tuning area and some limited ski storage.
